Zoladex: an inhibitor of precursor hormones secreted from a part of the brain that controls oestrogen release from the ovaries. Given as a depot injection once monthly as adjuvant therapy to premenopausal women, usually in conjunction with tamoxifen. In effect, Zoladex induces a medical menopause temporarily that is usually reversible upon stopping the medication (see endocrine therapy entry).
